Notes

“Proposed” is used loosely in this list. The definition can range from “certain to go ahead” to “wishful thinking”.

Indonesia

Bali Railway
The current proposal is for an urban transit system along the populated southern beach area. There have been previous proposals for a railway around the island.

Philippines

North-South Commuter Railway
Technically this should be classified as urban rail transit, which is not listed on this page. The NSCR will form part of the long-distance railway for the island of Luzon, so it is added here.

Thailand

Double-tracking
The double-tracking projects are being built in stages (eg Khon Kaen – Nong Khai) but I have listed the line name rather than listing all of the stages separately.

Other resources

Before I started Future Southeast Asia, I was keeping track of future railways at Nomadic Notes. I made a maps of current and proposed railways in Southeast Asia.
