November 4, 2024 By James Clark Leave a Comment

Ho Chi Minh City to Tay Ninh Railway

The Ho Chi Minh City-Tay Ninh light rail line (LRT) is a proposed railway connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Tay Ninh city in Tay Ninh province. The line was proposed by Sun Group to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee in October 2024.

The light rail line would be built with a new road along the Saigon River, passing through Cu Chi district to Tay Ninh province. The road would be 8-10 lanes wide with a length of nearly 100km.

Another proposal is to extend the railway another 20-30 km to the Moc Bai international border gate. This railway is a separate proposal from the proposed Ho Chi Minh City – Phnom Penh Railway.

Sun Group operate Sun World Ba Den Mountain in Tay Ninh. The mountain is home to the world’s largest cable car station.

The news reports are light on details, such as where the railway would start in HCMC, and how they would procure the land for 8-10 lanes for 100 km.

“In early October, Sun Group sent to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee its comments on the Ho Chi Minh City Master Plan Adjustment Project to 10, with a vision to 2040. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City needs to add to the planning an 2060-8 lane wide boulevard running along the Saigon River through Cu Chi, connecting to Tay Ninh. The focal point is the light rail line with a length of nearly 10km connecting directly to Tay Ninh, making travel and trade between Ho Chi Minh City residents and Tay Ninh and the provinces along the Saigon River increasingly convenient.”

Why Sun Group proposed to build Saigon light rail line? – [17/10/24]
“Sun Group Corporation proposed the need to develop a synchronous transport network, with 8-10 lane boulevards, connecting Saigon with Binh Duong and Tay Ninh, following the Saigon River, creating extensive connections with the Southeast provinces. Specifically, the route to Tay Ninh follows Provincial Road 6 (belonging to Ho Chi Minh City) towards Tay Ninh and then connects to Provincial Road 789 (belonging to Tay Ninh province). This is National Highway 22C according to the orientation of developing the Southeast region’s transport network in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.

In particular, the light rail line (LRT) running along the Saigon River route will not only stop at Cu Chi district as planned, but will extend the entire route to Tay Ninh, nearly 100km long.”
