Future Da Lat / Lam Dong Province

September 13, 2021 By James Clark Leave a Comment

Future Da Lat / Lam Dong Province

Da Lat is the capital of Lam Dong Province in the Central Highlands Region of Vietnam. This city in the mountains is by far the most visited place in the Central Highlands. The cool climate attracted French colonialists to establish it as a hill station, and they even built a railway that connected to the main North-South Railway.

Also in Lam Dong is Bao Loc, which is becoming a popular getaway due to its closer proximity to Ho Chi Minh City. A new expressway from Dong Nai Province to Bao Loc will make it a more accessible weekend getaway destination.

This article features current and proposed developments in and around Da Lat and Bao Loc.

Da Lat Centre Redevelopment

At the centre of Da Lat is the Da Lat Market, and above the market is the historic Hoa Binh Theatre.

In 2019 the city of Da Lat announced plans to redevelop the city centre area around the main market. The redevelopment includes demolishing the theatre to make way for a modern entertainment complex.

The old market would be retained while the area around it would be relandscaped.

The plan to demolish the theatre was not received well, and so far there are few details of the project. This image shows a modern building in place of the theatre, as viewed from the market area.
