December 19, 2025 By James Clark Leave a Comment

Phu Quoc Metro

The Phu Quoc Metro is an under-construction urban rail project on the island of Phu Quoc in Vietnam. The project was approved by the An Giang Province People’s Council on October 24 2024, and a ground-breaking ceremony was held on the 19th of December 2025. The plan is to have the line ready by the second quarter of 2027, in time for the 2027 APEC Summit in Phu Quoc.

Phase 1 of the metro line will be approximately 17.7 kilometres with with 6 stations and 1 vehicle maintenance centre. The trains will have 3 to 5 carriages with each carriage over 34 meters long and a capacity of about 180 passengers. Trains will have a speed ranging from 70 to 100 kilometres per hour.

The line will run from Phu Quoc International Airport to the APEC Convention Center, including 1.3 km elevated, 14.3 km at-grade, and 2 km underground through the central area.

The railway will be built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with a BOT contract by Phu Quoc Sun Company Limited.

Funding of the railway will be under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with an estimated cost of nearly 9 trillion VND (approximately USD 366 million). State participation is capped at 70 percent of the total investment, with 70 percent of that coming from the central budget and the remainder contributed by local authorities.
