Phu Quoc is an island of Vietnam to the far southwest of the country, off the coast of Cambodia. Phu Quoc is part of Kien Giang Province in the Mekong Delta Region, with Ha Tien being the closest port.
Phu Quoc is the largest island in Vietnam, and with its sandy beaches and tropical climate, the Vietnamese government made a plan to develop the island into an international leisure destination. The island is about the same size as Phuket in Thailand, and has been drawing comparisons with Phuket in terms of being the next big tourist island of Southeast Asia.
[Long Beach – Phu Quoc.]
The island has been developing at a rapid pace since 2010, and visitor numbers have been rising steadily since the new airport opened at the end of 2012. In 2021 the island of Phu Quoc was upgraded to city status.
This post is a directory of the major projects that have been completed, under construction, or planned. The news section at the bottom is an archive of news about development on the island, including the struggles with rubbish, overdevelopment, and infrastructure needs that aren’t keeping up with the rapid growth.
