Andaman Railway – A proposal to connect the West Coast of Southern Thailand by rail

Andaman Railway - Connecting the Southern West Coast of Thailand by rail

The Andaman Railway is a proposed railway along the Andaman Coast of Southern Thailand. There have been different proposals made over the years that would form a railway from Ranong to Satun, via Phuket.

Starting in the north, a line from Ranong would pass through Phang-Nga to Phuket.

Another line was proposed to connect Phuket International Airport with Krabi International Airport. A light rail was also proposed to go from Phuket International Airport to Phuket Town.

The Andaman Railway proposal is for a line that would connect Phuket with the southern provinces of Krabi, Trang and Satun. From Satun, the line would go to Hat Yai on the proposed Satun-Songkhla Route. This proposal has also been referred to as the Phuket-Hai Yai Railway.

This new line along the Andaman Sea coast could then be connected to the Southern Line via the planned Chumphon – Ranong Railway and planned Surat Thani – Phuket Raulway. It could also interchange with the Trang Railway, which is a branch of the Southern Line.
