Thanh Long Bay – A resort/new urban development on the South Central Coast of Vietnam

September 14, 2020 By James Clark Leave a Comment

Thanh Long Bay

Thanh Long Bay is a resort/new urban development in Binh Thuan province on the South Central Coast region of Vietnam. The project covers an area of 90.3 ha with a beachfront of 1.7km. It includes resort villas, apartments, hotels, and shophouses. It will be a place to live as well as a tourist destination.

This is a greenfield development not associated with any township, so it will be a completely new urban area. The project site is in Ke Ga, near the Ke Ga lighthouse (the oldest lighthouse in Vietnam). The closest major city is the provincial capital of Phan Thiet, 36 km to the north.

The development is split into three distinct sections, with resort villas by the beach, apartment towers in the middle, and rows of shophouses facing the main road. In total there are 6,000 apartments, 1,000 shophouses and 150 villas.

The original plan comprised four apartment towers made up of stacked blocks reaching a height of 27 floors. The main towers bear a striking resemblance to The Interlace in Singapore, though this project is not affiliated with the same architects.

The project was revised in 2021 with only one section of stacked blocks, with the rest of the towers being a mix of different designs.

AccorHotels and Wyndham Hotel Group are two hotel groups that will be part of the project.

Thanh Long is Vietnamese for dragon fruit, which is grown everywhere in Binh Thuan province.

Thanh Long Bay is 36 km south of Phan Thiet city. There is a planned airport for Phan Thiet, and a new expressway will reduce driving times from Ho Chi Minh City. Thanh Long Bay is about 140 km away from the future Long Thanh International Airport.

There is not even a village here, so everything is new. On the other side of the road is the Uni King Bay villa project, and on the western side is the Perolas resort development. If the Thanh Long project is a success then expect to see similar projects built around it, creating a new township.

Despite the size of this project, there hasn’t been a lot of reportage on the English language news sites in Vietnam. I have news alerts set up and I will bookmark future developments here.
