December 16, 2024 By James Clark 3 Comments

Thai Boon Roong Kampot Building

Thai Boon Roong Kampot Building is a two-tower development in Kampot, Cambodia. The project occupies an entire city block on the riverfront, next to the old bridge (Entanou Bridge).

The two towers will be apartments, with the back tower slightly higher and it is reported to be 36 floors high. The podium will include a shopping mall, entertainment centre, and restaurants.

A twin tower of 42 stories in a small town like Kampot? This is quite a surprise; a skyscraper in a Cambodian village. Well, at least it is not located in the heart of this historic, picturesque village.

Wait – it looks like it IS in the center of town, right at the riverside? Someone made a terrible mistake. Let’s hope it is a financial disaster, and they tear it down within 10 years.

An absolute disaster! It’ll entire wipe out and utterly transform the charming Kampot of today for the worse. Sad. A tragedy…

    Unfinished Brutalist Building.
It looks like they have realized they made a terrible mistake – construction has stopped in 2024. The company, which is half Cambodian and half Chinese, are now suing each other in court.
Kampot has a new massive Brutalist Building – unfinished. Maybe they can turn it into a giant parking garage; or a super sized shopping mall? Though I doubt that there will be demand for parking garages or shopping malls in the next 20 years. Lets wait for the future.
