[Desain MRT Makassar (IST).]
The groundbreaking for the Makassar Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), which was actually due to take place in August 2023, had to be postponed due to various challenges occurring in the field, starting from the lengthy licensing process, the negotiation process with investors, to the impact of the 2019 pandemic.
The Main Director of PT MRT Makassar, Andry Arief Bulu, said that this development began by carrying out focus group discussions (FGD) and feasibility studies (FS).
“Last month we held a meeting, and in the near future we will hold an FGD, also followed by an FS. “I have also reported it to the Governor of South Sulawesi and the Managing Director of Perseroda,” said Andry to the South Sulawesi Herald when met at the South Sulawesi Governor’s Rujab recently.
He said, the MRT will be built more widely, because the Makassar, Maros, Sungguminasa Gowa and Takalar (Mamminasata) areas are active again and one district, namely Pangkep, has been added. So it will make it easier to continue the MRT in Makassar.
“Moreover, Mamminasata extends to Pangkep, where there is a need for transportation that continues by train from Maros to Parepare and will enter Makassar. “So this really needs to be addressed in order, firstly, transportation technology must be more sophisticated,” said Andry.
In the near future, the Makassar MRT will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the MRT in Makassar.
“There is also integration of all transportation in South Sulawesi. “So we will have an FGD and also a groundbreaking ceremony,” he said.
Makassar MRT Route and Location
The MRT construction location in Makassar is still the same as before, continuing the existing South Sulawesi railway line.
“The location is still the same, because this is a continuation of the Maros-Parepare train transportation. “We start near the airport, continue elevated (above) and then descend at the Governor’s Office, heading towards Panakkukang, Pettarani and finally to CPI,” he said.
Andry admitted that this development would take 5-10 years, and was really serious about building and working well with all existing stakeholders. Currently,
he said, there are MRT projects that will be built in Indonesia, namely Denpasar and Makassar. (war/han)
