Nakhon Sawan – Mae Sot Railway is a double-track metre-gauge railway that is under construction in Thailand. The railway forms part of the East-West Economic Corridor Railway, linking Myanmar to Vietnam via Thailand and Laos.
The railway starts at Nakhon Sawan on the Northern Line. The line passes through Kamphaeng Phet and Tak provinces, ending at Mae Sot on the Thailand-Myanmar border. The 256 km railway project includes four tunnels (15km, 12 km, 1.5km and 0.8km), two of which will be the longest in Thailand.
East-West Economic Corridor Railway
The Nakhon Sawan – Mae Sot Railway is one of three sections in Thailand of the East-West Economic Corridor Railway. The other sections are from Nakhon Sawan to Ban Phai (291km), and the under-construction Ban Phai to Nakhon Phanom (355km).
Nakhon Phanom is opposite Thakhek in Laos, where the Vientiane to Vung Ang Railway will pass through. This will be a standard-gauge railway, so the metre-gauge railway that Thailand is building will be incompatible with the Laos and Vietnam section of the EWEC Railway.
