Langkawi LRT: A proposed maglev from Kuah Ferry Terminal to Cenang Beach

May 13, 2024 By James Clark Leave a Comment

Langkawi LRT

Langkawi LRT is a proposed light rail transit system in Langkawi, Malaysia. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on 29 April 2024 between the state-owned Kedah Investment Authority (Permodalan Kedah Bhd (PKB)) and South Korea’s Royal Eco Train Development (RETD) to study the development of a Light Rapid Transit (LRT) system in Langkawi.

The proposed LRT route is from Kuah Passenger Ferry Terminal to Pantai Cenang, and extending to other tourist destinations in future stages. The LRT is proposed to be a maglev system powered by magnetic propulsion.

This proposed LRT is not related to the proposal made in parliament in 2023 for an LRT from Alor Setar to Langkawi.
