Poipet is a city on the Cambodian-Thai border in Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia. Poipet is the busiest crossing point between the two countries, serving traffic going to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. The city is known for its casinos that cater for visitors from Thailand. The city is also emerging as a manufacturing centre in the Special Economic Zones in the city.
The Phnom Penh – Poipet railway is connected to Thailand, which is Cambodia’s only international railway connection. The line is used for freight, and there are plans to start an international passenger service. There are also plans for a domestic airport.
