Cable cars in Southeast Asia

Cable cars are not a common sight in Southeast Asia, though there are plans for new cable cars around the region. The exception is in Vietnam, where there are more cable cars than in every country in Southeast Asia combined.

This article list every cable car in Southeast Asia. There is also a news archive of proposed cable cars for every country.

“Cable car” is used as a catch-all term, even though some are classified as gondolas or aerial trams.

Ta Cu cableway is a cable car to the Linh Son Truong Tho Pagoda on Ta Cu Mountain 28 km west of the tourist area of Phan Thiet.

Yên Tử Cable Car
Location: Thượng Yên Công, Uông Bí, Quảng Ninh.

Yên Tử Mountain is about 50 km from Ha Long Bay. The mountain is a Buddhist pilgrimage site.

Hon Thom Cable Car is the longest non-stop three-rope cable car according to Guinness World Records.

Queen Cable Car
Location: Hồng Gai, Thành phố Hạ Long, Quảng Ninh.

Queen cable car in Ha Long City, held the record of the tallest cable car tower in the world (188.88 m tall). It also holds the record for the biggest aerial tramway cabins, being able to accommodate 230 passengers.

Cam Mountain (Nui Cam) is the highest mountain in the Mekong Delta (710 metres). The cable car travels between Lam Vien tourism site at the foot of Cam Mountain and Vo Ong Buom on the peak.

    A lot of the cable cars in Vietnam are due to one company – Sun World; no idea why they are so obsessed with them, though.
