The Nusantara Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) is a transit system under trial in Nusantara, the new capital city of Indonesia.
The ART is best described as a trackless tram. The tram does not require rails or a purpose-built track like on a people-mover system. This trackless tram operates on the road like a bus. The ART runs on electric battery power, so there is no overhead power cables or third rail electricity source used by trams and rail transit systems.
Each ART set consists of three cars with total length of 32 metres, and each set has a capacity for up to 307 passengers. It has an operational speed of 40 kph and a top speed of 70 kph. The trams are driverless and are guided by sensors that follow dotted lines on the road.
The ART will run on a 7km route for a trial period until December 31, 2024.
