Widad Langkasuka – An artificial islands project in Langkawi

November 30, 2024 By James Clark Leave a Comment

Widad Langkasuka

Widad Langkasuka was a proposed new urban area in Langkawi Malaysia. The project by Widad Group Berhad involved constructing 1000 acres of artificial islands in the bay next to Langkawi International Airport.

The project was to form an eagle-shaped landmass (the white-crested eagle being the symbol of Langkawi) comprised of nine zones. The islands were to be linked to each other by internal roads, a monorail, and a pedestrian walkway.

Widad Langkasuka planned to have luxury hotels and resorts, an international golf course, a yacht club, shopping malls, office space, residential, higher learning institutions, and healthcare facilities.

The project is on hold after the investor pulled out.
