In reply to <a href="https://futuresoutheastasia.com/nonthaburi-civic-center/#comment-93606">Yappo</a>.

Says it all doesn’t it the governor and civil servants were more interested in the view from their office than providing an integrated interchange

“Manageable by the able bodied and the young” but not so easy if you are able bodied and young and have luggage, shopping, young children etc.. anyway the whole thing about integrated transport is to make it as easy as possible for people to use both to transfer between lines, other modes of transport and ticketing

Actually, this was one of the rare times when a decent integrated interchange was going to be built as both are MRT lines. Unlike most other interchanges done in the past between diff systems & where they always opened 1 to 2 yrs after a new line opened.

The original MRTA plan plan had the MRT Pink line station located just 20m from the east end of the MRT Purple line station. However, 2.5 yrs ago the Nonthaburi senior civil servants & thus the Govenor objected to the site as they said it would block their view to the south from the Govt Complex offices. (Views of a bust Rattanatibet rd!) Concerns about car park access played a part too. Thus, they demanded that the station be moved 350m east towards Khae Rai intersection, adjacent to Esplanade.

The interchange is not as you infer though it is long. It is comparable in distance to the Bang Son interchange, Makksan interchange & Hua Mark interchange (which is terrible) None of these are ideal but they are manageable for able bodied & younger folk. Dusability access is better here than the others.

Lastly, very few pax coming from Bkk would take the Purple line to connect to the Pink line unless they live Tiwanon & Pakkret way. The majority are using the BTS & the SRT Dark Red line to a lesser extent.

It's incomprensible that this lack of integration is still happening

It beggars belief that the Thais appear to have no idea about integrated public transport not just in ensuring easy transit between different lines but also with other forms of transport. In addition there is also no common ticketing.

I wonder if there was seemless connections and one ticketing system across the network ( perhaps based on the successful zone system in London) how many people might be attracted to use public transport instead of their car.
